Driftwood & Pottery Spoon

Inspired by pieces of vintage crockery found in the Tasmanian maker's coastal garden, these gorgeous spoons incorporate handles made from locally collected driftwood. We love to use them for adding dry ingredients to our green smoothie of a morning, or to sprinkle our bath salts when we need a good soak in the tub. They are beautiful for scooping herbal teas into your favourite teapot too, or scattering dukkah over your yoghurt or dips. Every spoon is as unique as the piece of driftwood used to create it and the spoon you receive may vary slightly from the images shown.
Size: approx 22cm long. The ceramic scoop of the spoon is sized between a teaspoon and tablespoon.
Practical as well as decorative, these spoons are made to be used, but for longevity we recommend not getting the driftwood handles wet. The handles have been nourished with a little orange oil and you can do this from time to time if you wish.
HOW THEY ARE MADE:
Tasmanian based Sarah Webb of Sea Soul Studio has been a maker ever since her earliest memories of creating hand made jewellery from home dyed macaroni as a young child. A few years ago she took a course in ceramics and was absolutely smitten. Her desire to constantly push and explore the boundaries of the material and her own imagination is relentless. Sea Soul Studio was born when Sarah and her husband purchased an 1830's cottage by the sea in Tasmania, Thorne Cottage. Sarah loves nothing better than meandering the coastal tracks with her dog, soaking in textures and forms, sights and sounds, and then making her way through an arbour of passionfruit to my studio where hours just disappear. Her designs are heavily influenced by old blue and white pottery (she has found many amazing relics in the grounds of Thorne Cottage) and this coastal-cottage lifestyle. Each piece of Sea Soul Studio ware is handcrafted from a variety of clay bodies and undergoes multiple processes to transform from a lump of wet clay to a unique and beautiful piece to treasure forever. Variations in shape, size, texture and glaze are to be expected and respected as a guarantee of the item’s handmade nature, a complete contrast to the mass-produced. Sometimes Sarah works to music; your piece could have a little Angus and Julia Stone vibe! Other times, it is softly raining outside and she enjoys the quiet, occasionally interrupted by the lonely call of pacific gulls. Each piece has its own energy and personality and we hope you will fall in love with them as much as we have.
